Title: "Moving" Pictures
Description: what films got to you?

RancerDS - August 16, 2005 04:58 PM (GMT)
What films do you feel have had a profound effect upon you?

I'll list a few that affected me....

Schindler's List
Amazing Grace and Chuck
The Perfect Storm
Stealing Heaven
Titanic

The perfect storm didn't do the book any justice at all.

I'd have to think about it, but Hotel Rwanda is defintatly on my list.

Off the top of my head, two of the more moving films I've seen are Schindler's List and Shawshank Redemption. Though Forest Gump also brought a lump to my throat at the end (a lot of the time I found it was me alone that happened to).

Schindler's List

RancerDS - August 18, 2005 03:08 PM (GMT)
In "Forest Gump", the hackles were raised and sweat started beading up when Gary Sinese's character was challenging the Almighty. That was the first time a film did that. And thinking he was going to get struck by lightening, did you know James Caveziel was supposedly struck by lightning when on location for the film "The Last Temptation of Christ"?

Yeah, building upon what others have said, definatly Schindler's List. Saving Private Ryan was another that was rather moving, along with Apocalypse now. I still have to say that Hotel Rwanda is really high up there, I mean while you know this stuff intellectually, its different actually seeing some things about it.

The Pianist was very moving.

for moving emotionally/personally:
"estación central de brasil" or "todo sobre mi madre"
for moving politically/non-personally:
possibly most "the crying fields"

Lumumba, Apocalypse Now, Traffic.

I'd have to agree that "Traffic" was moving. It took a lot of differing viewpoints into account. It certainly was gritty at times, emphasized more by the cinematography.

They may have found a way to use up all that older film laying about the studio's storerooms, thanks to the success of it's use in this flick.

I would have to say a movie that had a great impact on my life was "A knight's tale because of the fact that he was not scared to take a huge risk that could get him killed it made me think about how brave I was...

"Naked Gun" and its sequels. I was about 6 when the first one first came out, and I thought they were so hilarious. Not the funniest movies ever, but because I watched them so often when I was young, I think they ended up shaping my sense of humor.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I." The fight scene between the turtles and Shredder at the end was awesome. It ended up getting me into martial arts.

"Forrest Gump," because it helped to challenge the premium I used to put (and still put, to a degree) on intelligence. It also showed me very memorable (if atypical) examples of heroism and faith.

"Hotel Rwanda," for reasons stated by others. I felt more moved to act globally after seeing the movie.

"Office Space," for parodying a way of life that so many live. It helped me realize that I personally need to avoid that type of work environment as much as possible.

haha "Office Space" "Where's my stappler? I belive you have my stappler." Haha I love that.

Band of Brothers. Watched all the tapes in one day as they were borrowed & to be returned right away from a friend.

Hotel Rwanda and The Pianist.

Anything where a loyal pet dies.

Open Water shocked me. I really couldn't see what the point of that film was gonna be, filmed as it was, just for them to die. That was just so.........

Memento was, well affecting I guess I'd put it. Maybe that's the word for Open Water too but in a different way.

I liked the philosophy embedded in Matrix.

To Kill a Mockingbird has to probably be on this list.
