Title: Man Vs Woman
Description: Why is it that...

King'O'Roff - April 19, 2005 02:23 PM (GMT)
A man punches a woman in anger - this is apparently wrong...
A woman punches a man in anger - this is more exceptable...

Why?

Wingfoot - April 20, 2005 11:57 PM (GMT)
Because men are seen as the dominating sex still.

The same question goes for, if an adult hits a child and vice versa

King'O'Roff - April 22, 2005 08:22 AM (GMT)
Ah - but a child is more defenceless than a woman - and with modern diets - some women are on par with men. The reason why I ask is: why should a man be chastized for hitting a woman (which, if she would have been a man - would have seemed a perfectly good reaon) - and a woman who hits a man can get away with it.

You see I'm trying to view this without having to say "because man is stronger" - because that surely isn't the only reason.

Lorpius Prime - April 22, 2005 06:02 PM (GMT)
From a purely reproductive perspective, individual women are more important to the survival of the species than men, so a man attacking a woman runs counter to an ingrained survivalist ethic.

Wingfoot - April 23, 2005 01:09 AM (GMT)
Because a lot of women (not saying all) like to have things slanted in their favour both ways (and who wouldn't). They want equality and to be treated the same as men, though they do still want to have women's only car insurance companies and women's only sessions at gyms or swimming pools etc etc

But that's what gets me...they're supposed to be our equals - yet they seperate themselves from equality.

psycholopher - May 2, 2005 01:33 AM (GMT)
Well, a woman punching a man may be more acceptable, but it's not necessarily RIGHT.

No, men and women might be equal (in terms of underlying human dignity), but that doesn't mean that they are the same. Nor should they be treated the same. This goes for all people.

Deltasix - May 2, 2005 03:42 PM (GMT)
All it is is a hold-over from our cultural roots. The ideals of chivalry and the like. Granted these are more acceptable than other cultural roots, such as women not being able to hold jobs and blacks being 3/5 of a white man, but they are basiclly the same.

This just hasn't been phased out yet.

You think this is entirely cultural? Do you think there is any biological basis for this?

Deltasix - May 4, 2005 08:33 PM (GMT)
I suppose it depends on what you define as cultural. It goes back historically to our cavemen days. Just as a healthy look is attractive, or being tall or the like ( sub-consious hold over from when we where hunt-gatherers) the "protection" of the female part of our race is a hold over.

Prehaps "cultural" isn't exactly the word to discribe it.

Wingfoot - May 4, 2005 09:13 PM (GMT)
It's a human thing, in most other species on the planet, the female is the more dominant counterpart

King'O'Roff - May 5, 2005 12:11 PM (GMT)
You mean it's easier for a woman to get you over a barrel. Is that it?

All minorities are like that. Only problem with this is women aren't minorities. However I will gladly acknowledge the fact that they were discriminated against just like another race would be for years. But they scream feminism, and then they bitch when you don't hold a door for them, or something like that.

Infact, I believe that I am going to start a new movement. As of this day, men will no longer be bitched at by angry feminists!!! TODAY!!! A MASCINISM MOVEMENT WILL BEGIN!!! AND MEN WILL REIGN SUPREME!!! (and yes, its a word dammit)
Oh wait, we already do... Hell yeah!

All of my stupid ass, unfunny jokes aside, women are for the most part weaker. I mean come on, you know you could beat the shit out of like 98% of the women you come in contact with in any given week. What does piss me off however, are these butch, huge, lesbian, weight lifting, steroid enhanced ladies, who devote their entire life to being more manly, and growing a penis, but still want all of the little nice parts about being a woman, and if they pick on you, and you push them away or something, they bitch at you for hitting a woman. I actually have never come in confrontational contact with a woman like this, but I'm sure a man has, and it would be scary.

And I think the more important question here is: What does all of this mean for lesbians?

Wow, this post really went to hell...

Actually in some ways biologically, women are superior than men:

QUOTE
Although fewer females than males are born (the ratio is around 1:1.05), due to a longer life expectancy there are only 81 men aged 60 or over for every 100 women of the same age, and among the oldest populations, there are only 53 men for every 100 women. Women have a lower death rate than men, and on average, live five years longer. This is due to a combination of factors: genetics (redundant and varied genes present on sex chromosomes in women); sociology (such as not being expected in most countries to perform military service); health-impacting choices (such as suicide or the use of cigarettes, and alcohol); the presence of the female hormone estrogen, which has a cardioprotective effect in premenopausal women; and the effect of high levels of androgens in men.

I also heard somewhere, and this might not apply to all men, that it's usually more akward for a man to hit a woman, rather than vice versa, not really akward it's kind of like instincts I guess you would call it. Another issue could be that it's been thought of as wrong for so long, it's like Deltasix said, it's like chivalry,

Does this mean I'll be able to find a date when I hit 60???

On a serious note, was re-reading a Clancy novel which talks about the undervaluation of women in Chinese society. And if they are still draconic in it's population control there, makes you wonder what the ratio of women to men is today in that country.

Also, have always heard that a woman's pain tolerance (ceiling) is much higher than a man's. Good thing we fellas don't have to birth no babies.
