Title: Raul Castro's Cuba

QUOTE (Brian Wagner)
Cuba's acting president, Raul Castro, Thursday led celebrations marking a 1953 rebel attack that helped launch the Cuban revolution. In Miami, VOA's Brian Wagner reports it was the first time in decades the ceremonies did not include aging leader Fidel Castro, who handed power to his brother nearly a year ago.

The evening news reported that in that year's time, Fidel hasn't made any public appearances. They have video clips of him after the reported illness that led to him "handing" over power to his brother. It looks like Cuba isn't Castro-free. But Raul supposedly extended an olive branch to the next U.S. administration in hopes of improving ties.

Thoughts?

Fidel Castro's time is nearly over, and his brother won't last long either. They should work to prepare their succession now. Things are going to change in Cuba in the next decade, and if the Castro brothers want them to change according to their way, they must ignite the changes now instead of talking about getting Fidel back in power.

Fidel and Raul, listen to me: you must stop having those ceremonies and clinging to power. Find someone younger, competent and charismatic, someone you trust, and pave the way to name this person president as soon as the two of you must quit politics. The future of Cuba is at stake here. Your intentions were good at the beginning: you wanted to fight poverty and yank your country free from the control of the United States, and though you did not quite succeed, you did surprisingly well considering the circumstances. But now you've become corrupt, because you've been in power for too long (and power corrupts, y'know). Stop thinking for yourselves and, in the name of Cuba, find a trustworthy person who will continue the job. It might be difficult for you to believe, but Cuba will live on once you're both dead.
