Title: The NEW Iraq Plan
Description: Good idea, or Bad idea?

Well, Bush made his speech wedensday, telling America and the World how we shall handle Iraq from this point. this involves getting several "brigades" to patrol the nine districts of Baghdad, and sending 20,000 new troops over there! This scares me! And what's more? Iran and Syria are helping the blasted insurgants that make so much trouble over there, so e are going to "stop" those supply lines. But i fear that this could be used as an excuse to attack Iran lke the government has been threatening to!
In short, i say Bush's new plan will get us deeper into the conflict. We've lost 3,018 troops and we're going to lose a lot more at this rate.
I think a democracy over there is impossible because it's a religious war between the Shiites and Sunnis, one that was posponed becasuse of Saddam threatening to gas them. But now that he's gone, they're fighting agian and we're trapped right in the middle of their holy war!

We really need to ask ourselves how much do we actually want to "succeed" and in what mission. Is it in getting the most troops home, leaving Iraq to, oh I dunno, the Iraqis? Then pretty much everyone but the president's plan makes sense.
Is it to delay the inevitable full scale civil war? Then do what Bush is doing.
Is it "peace with honor?" If thats what you want, build a time machine.
Am I a "surrender monkey?" Quite possibly.

The Soviet's attempt to combat terrorism by going after them into Afghanistan was a "whirlwind vacation" compared to what the U.S. is stuck doing now. And we sold them Stingers and RPG's back then!!!

Well,
I have to give Bush this. He realized "stay the course" isn't working.
That being said, I don't see how this is going to work. It just increases the troop levels to what they were what, a year ago? We weren't exactly "winning" then.
Most of the soldiers on the grounds (Lieutenants and Sargent) are saying we're fighting this war wrong. That we should be focusing on rebuilding roads and water mains. The local people remember some of Saddam's reign of terror, but also remember that they had running water then. If we build those sorts of urban improvements yes terrorists might come after them, but then the Iraqi people would be more willing to cooperate against the terrorists since they're blowing up pipes giving them clean drinking water.
