Heath Shuler

Running as a pro-lifer.
QUOTE
Shuler, a Democrat, has no political experience, but national GOP officials unsuccessfully attempted in 2001 to recruit him to run for Congress in Tennessee. He owns a real estate company based in Knoxville, Tenn.

Looks like a strong hopeful for the seat
Swing State Project

Naturally, the opponents are doing things to try to keep him from having a Schwartzenegger's chance in S.C.
http://www.stopshuler.com/, including pounding his performance last time in Washington as a QB in the NFL. Plus they like to make an issue of what he named his children.

Can an ex-Heisman Trophy runner-up have a shot at taking an incumbent's seat in a district that shouldn't go to a Republican, but did by 55% of the vote last time?

I was for Arnie in California because of his wife's (Ms. Shriver's) political connections. She's the niece of John F. Kennedy. Shuler's smart, well liked and charismatic... but he needs more than a Max Cleland behind him to win, I think.

Hmm, I'm not sure if Fedex Field is inside the Beltway or not, so I wonder if he can run as an outsider

I think the most compelling arugement on that anti-Shuler site is the fact that he really did suck as a QB. The rest of it is pretty lame.

Of course the man has a shot, I mean, Barkley is still talking about running for.... something, isn't he? In all honesty, I don't care what the background of a candidate is, he could work in Osama's Homo-erotic pot and commie jizzporium for all I care, I want to know what kind of representative of the people he'd make.

And the people within a certain district of North Carolina have chosen to send Heath Shuler (ex-QB) to Washington D.C. as their House representative. Go figure.

Good luck in the bureacracy, Shuler. You think QB Controversies are bad, just wait.
