| Good movie, but do people really get it?, 10 October 2006 8/10 Author: iMorg from United States I think this movie is much more than what most people may see it as--a sick liberal fantasy played out in a documentary. Nonsense. The human condition is pretty volatile. Words can turn into action, action can lead to conflict and conflict can turn into a catastrophe. Given a big enough catastrophe, it can affect everyone on the planet--and the planet itself. Do we really know what suffering and desperation is going through the minds of people who are directly affected by the brutal foreign policies of one of the most powerful men in the world? We all have our breaking points, not to excuse assassination. Among other things, I think this movie intended to inspire us to think about the human condition and what drives people to commit such heinous acts. I don't like Bush, hell, I hate the man. But I would NEVER advocate assassination. But then again, I'm not in a position that millions of people in Iraq or Afghanistan are in. I haven't lost members of my family from insurgents, death squads, American troops, etc. I'm not a soldier who has been badly wounded on the battlefield only to realize the battle was futile and in vain. We live in a bubble here in America. We tend not to acknowledge other people's suffering, especially when we are causing the suffering. We always place complete blame on the "enemy of the moment". What makes a man assassinate a president? What makes a president worth assassinating? What makes a terrorist terrorize? If we can get to the root cause of these conditions, we can better prevent them. |
