Title: Triple-Digit Temps

RancerDS - July 19, 2006 07:52 PM (GMT)
100 degrees (F) at the time this post was started.

The forecast has the mercury set to rise another 2-3 degrees. Last night at 10:30-ish, feed the cats and wondered how it could be so sweltering out. Checked the Weather Channel to learn the temperature was 88 degrees. Talking with Metgredo yesterday over AIM, he said it got extremely hot there and didn't cool off after nightfall.

It's going to be in the triple digits for the next couple of days. But looks like we might get a break here.. will cool down to 74 for a low instead of just 80-82. I know, it sounds like I'm in a desert region.. but actually in "Green Country" Oklahoma (thats the NE section). At least it is kinda green now. Should be a nice shade of brown after the weekend... if we don't get any rain.

Is this global warming? Are all the running A/C's only making the conditions worse for the environment? Stand next to one of the A/C compressors and feel how much heat comes off of one. Was talking with Delta about those 'misting' rigs they set up... a shade ittle awning with jets of misted water shooting out. Hear that people are congregating nicely in or around them.

And the electic bills for some areas are unbelieveably high. Hearing reports of bills running from $300-$600 per month. That was before these 100+ degree days really started coming consecutively.

What's your advice for staying cool?

In britain it was the hottest july day since 1911. up to 37degrees in some places. Car breakdowns were up 20%, water pistol sales up 850%on last year and many school closing down. although mine didn't. grrr..

elmouk - July 19, 2006 08:55 PM (GMT)
Also a few roads apparantly kind of melted

Asphalt somtimes does that. Thats why they don't make roads out of it in Mexico, they use concrete.

Its been over 100 degrees outside of DC for the last 3 days, although today it got into the 90s, which was nice. Then we're getting a some cool air from Canada, which is also nice.

Metrobuses ran free yesterday because of the heat, to encourage people not to walk or take their own cars. And my office has A/C so not that bad. At least, not in the short term.

The tube and the rest of london transport today was hotter than the conditions legally acceptable for cattle to travel in.

So I heard. Metro is very comfortable in that reguard. We have cool things over here like "Heat" in the winter and "AC" in the summer. ;)

yer the tube has small vents. lol theres not enough room on the trains to have a/c but they say in like 10-15 years they're hoping to have it. and by then we'll probably be in desert conditions

Edit: Its just been confirmed that today in some parts on britain it reached 38 so it was the hottest july day on record. Which is goin back to 1788 i think.

Weird. The North seems to be getting hotter than the South. I'm down here in South Florida, and the high for the week was something like 93. Average was in the 80's somewhere. Comfortable.

-IMP ;) :)

Yeah, forgot that you go by Celsius. Well... to make it relative to you... was driving to go play poker this late afternoon.. and the bank's temperature read-out displayed it as 41 degrees (Cel.).

According the convertor for Celcius to Farhenheight, the heat index for DC the other day was 43.33C, or 110 F.

It was hot.

What temperature, in farenheit, does water boil at

Deltasix - July 20, 2006 03:48 PM (GMT)
Give or take 212 degrees I think.

Yeah, it is.

Dallas, Tulsa, Kansas City, Raleigh, Baltimore/D.C., Boston, Philadelphia and New York City... all looking at 100-degree temps being possible today.

Temperatures aren't cooling off at night. Instead of mere brown-outs due to electrical demand, they are having black-outs. The government is already talking incentives to get the power companies to upgrade their infrastructure. Record usages in Detroit and Chicago for power consumption... even the Empire State Building will be turning off lights. Not really a historic event except for the fact that the landmark building almost NEVER turns off these particular lights.

Tomorrow looks to be just as hot with a chance that things will cool down a bit on Friday... at least to the tune of 15-20 degrees in some areas. And it's going to be hotter in the nation's capitol than it will be in... of all places... Las Vegas.

RancerDS - August 11, 2006 12:01 AM (GMT)
108 Degrees here!

Go 14 miles south, it's only 102 degrees. I think maybe someone left the thermometer out in the sunshine. It's supposed to be topping triple digits for the entire weekend. What should REALLY make things interesting is if we get any rain at all (30% chance tonight). I'm so not looking forward to the effects of humidity mixed in with this heat.

And a state-wide burn ban is in effect.

Deltasix - August 11, 2006 12:41 AM (GMT)
Its been nice here for a while. It was up to 110 a few weeks ago, and about 105 earlier in the week.
