Title: Which Web Browser Do You Use?
Description: Huh?! Which one!!?!!
Deltasix - April 16, 2006 04:44 AM (GMT)
I saw this on the main IF forum, and thought I'd ask you all here.
I use Bon Echo, which is the beta version of FireFox 2. As it is the same company and all that nonsense, I just voted for FF.
I've used all of the ones I've listed, except Safari, which is what that Mac Crap uses. I've also used the MSN and the AOL browsers.
You?
Keys - April 18, 2006 09:35 AM (GMT)
I use either IE or foxfire. Been meaning to try opera.
Zairik - April 19, 2006 04:27 PM (GMT)
IE because it's simple, and because it has been on almost every computer I've used.
Netscape because you can get around restrictions where website blockers are being used, but I prefer not to use this unless I absolutely need to.
Usually from IE I can just go tools>internet options>connections>lan settings and then uncheck the proxy server.
I've tried Firefox, Netscape, IE, Opera, and a few others I think.
Usually they come with a bunch of stuff you don't need so I just used IE. Less is more.
psycholopher - April 19, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
Oh trash the Mac as usual. Safari is clean and easy to use, the main problem being the occasional website that doesn't support it.
On PCs, I much prefer Firefox.
P.S. My PC at home (a Dell) is going bonkers, after having it for just a year. Strangely, my 4+ year old Powerbook is still kicking...
Cheesy Taco - April 20, 2006 01:52 AM (GMT)
Internet Explorer. I used to use Firefox but it really messes up some messageboards I go to.
Deltasix - April 20, 2006 02:00 AM (GMT)
Yeah, it does do that. Not all sites are coded to meet the need of FF. However, FF also comes with an extention that allows you to view a page just like you were using IE. Its handy, because except in those cases, I think that FF is better overall.
harmatia - May 4, 2006 03:30 PM (GMT)
FireFox is by far the best.
kane123123 - May 4, 2006 07:38 PM (GMT)
I use mozilla for most things, except for the few problems which plugins cannot remedy, and when this situation occurs, I temporarily use explorer.
Deltasix - May 4, 2006 09:01 PM (GMT)
You should look into the IE extentsion for FF. It allows you to switch over to IE in the same window.
Rivey - May 5, 2006 08:36 PM (GMT)
looks like almost everyone uses firefox.. I use IE.
Deltasix - May 5, 2006 08:42 PM (GMT)
Yeah, most people use IE just because it is default, and I did too for a while, but yeah, once I started using FF, I never again used IE on a voluentary basis.
Rivey - May 6, 2006 02:20 AM (GMT)
i don't see the difference between the two... I've used firefox and mozilla? and they are all the same
Deltasix - May 6, 2006 03:29 AM (GMT)
Pretty much. I use Bon Echo, which is kinda like FIre Fox 2, not much differene though, caue its a Beta and whatnot.
Rivey - May 6, 2006 03:44 AM (GMT)
lol okay whatever that means lol
Deltasix - May 6, 2006 03:49 AM (GMT)
Uh, what part of that don't you understand?
revan - May 28, 2006 03:58 AM (GMT)
You know its weird. I remember a friend telling me about FireFox close to 2 years ago and now I see that everyone uses firefox. How did this happen. Word of mouth?

Basiclly. People got kinda fed up with how IE worked (or didn't work) and yeah.
People use the 'net to talk to one another, word spreads quickly I guess.
maxnight1189 - May 28, 2006 02:47 PM (GMT)
i dont kow what all you people are talking about, i used firefox for a while and i couldnt stand it. I had my own proxy server running on our network shareing our internet connection(which at the time was dial-up so i couldnt share it through the router) and firefox just didnt seem to be able to grasp the concept. I kept getting errors and everytime i tried to go to a page it re-routed me to google! Also the version i had was full of advertisements which were kinda annoying.
Now i use Opera and I LOVE it. It's got all the tabbed browsing whatnot like firefox, no adds, built in google ebay download.com amazon and etc searches, and it does EVERYTHING including email, rss feeds, file trasnfers, regular browsing etc, etc....also it does this really cool thing with mouse gestures. When you right click and then do certain movements like a click and then moving the cursor to the left or up then down and many others, it does things like to the left is back, to the right is forward, straight down opens a new tab etc(The preceeding program was sponsored by the Opera web browser Community...I just seem to be doing a bunch of subsidizations today...)
Oo oo! I almost forgot it remembers what pages you have open even between sessions.
sitegod - May 29, 2006 11:07 AM (GMT)
I.E 6 & 7
I've used MSN and AOL
I've also used Opera on my PPC which looks similar enough to IE...
Edit: I have finally seen the light and have gone to Firefox! My windows XP computer broke and I'm still using Windows 2000 and I was getting tired of IE 6 and lack of tabs so I gave firefox a shot. It's a bit of a shock when you first use it but it's great to develop on ... :)

Firefox has never had ads for me, FF has built in google/ebay/DL.com/amazon/wikipedia, pretty much anything you want from ask to wiki and everything in between. Its pretty helpful. FF does rss, file transfers, etc, and alot more if you want.
maxnight1189 - June 9, 2006 05:38 PM (GMT)
wow, they must have done some serious updating since i tried it last...

Oh, in its orginal form it sucked. But yeah, they are all extentions that you just pick and choose, which I like, because it keeps the unwanted crap off.
maxnight1189 - June 26, 2006 01:23 AM (GMT)
hey, i just got the latest version of opera and now it has these cool things it calls "widgets." They're like the things on the apple "dashboard" (i think those are called widgets too) and you can get them to do pretty much ANYTHING. For example, i have a sudoku one, the widget version of the Pandora music player, one that searches and downloads torrents w/ bit torrent, and one that is a tetris game. There are like hundreds of other widgets out there too.
Deltasix - June 26, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
Yeah, the things for Firefox are called extentions. There are a bunch out there, unfortunatly I unitstalled all of them to use Bon Echo.
RancerDS - July 16, 2006 02:59 PM (GMT)
This post is to update everyone on what is being used on this new setup...
I downloaded & installed FreeBSD-6.1. For those of you unfamiliar, FreeBSD is a Un*x OS; a derivative from Berkeley Systems Division of their UNIX operating system. It's just what the name implies, totally free.
Having installed the X-Windows GUI*, I chose KDE for the desktop environment. That's like saying you want to have a WinXP look versus a WinME or Win98 style for your desktop layout/design/menus. KDE came with a multipurpose browser called "Konqueror". It looks sharp, there isn't any doubt. Yet when trying to browse with it, noticed it took quite a while to transfer the data.
So I downloaded Opera for a new browser. But I didn't get to installing it right away. Then, when it is time to actually install it, logged into a console window as root and went to the /usr/ports directory that housed the files and typed "Make". That's how you install things in Un*x. You type that or "make install" or "make install clean". Well, did that and guess what! The downloaded Opera (v9) didn't install, but rather put the 8.51 version onto my hard drive. And that wouldn't even open for me.
Next came Firefox. It was "make install clean". A note to folks, this doesn't just load a pretty prepackaged software application to your 'puter. It does a run-time compile to create it from scratch using the original source code... but is good in that it optimizes it for your current systems capabities & settings.
Then I happened to try to launch Opera and wa-lah! It worked! So strange sometimes. So I'm sitting here with three different web-browsers to chose from for using... Konqueror, Firefox and Opera. In the next few days, will see which one I like best under this OS. Firefox's plug-ins that were installed for my WinXP machine are also in place for this FreeBSD box**, since they rock! {e.g. NoScript & Adblock}

I use FireFox. I like the tabbed browsing, and haven't had any reason to look for something else after I discovered the wonders of Mozilla.
Zairik - August 27, 2006 02:53 AM (GMT)
Netscape has become my main browser, IE second main browser, and FireFox a distant third place.
I love how Netscape lets you view as IE or FF, and how it allows you to open multiple bookmarks at once. That saves me a lot of time. So does the Clear Tracks on Exit feature.

FF has all of these options too, you know.

I think the widgets work outside of the browser, don't they? Or does Opera 9.x have to be running?
Opera is winning out on the browser war on the BSD operating system I'm using. Firefox is in there at second and the built-in Konquerer is working fine, but much slower than first two. Using it has caused problems when viewing forums, mostly PnP... not fulling loading and showing HTML code or HTTP errors after displaying some of the page.
I may try one of the more exotic breeds soon too.
Zairik - August 27, 2006 05:28 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Netscape and FF have a lot of the same features, but FF doesn't let you view the page as IE. I know FF and Netscape have the ability to do different themed skins, but I just like the default Netscape 8.1 skin.

Umm, yeah it does.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419Like I said, FF has those options too.
I don't really think that most people grasp fully all of the features FF has and can have with a simple download or two. Pretty much anything any other browser can have, and hundreds more. And its aso great for just straight web browseing.
:firefox:

I use Firefox, much better than internet explorer (although it took me awhile to make the switch).

Same with me. The first time I used FF, I didn't like it, actually. Then I tried it again, and just liked it alot more than anything else I'd tried.
RancerDS - August 31, 2006 06:10 PM (GMT)
Ad-Block extension rocks!!!
I'm not crazy about the overhead of Firefox, but the Ad-block extension alone makes it all worthwhile.
Bartleby - September 1, 2006 08:54 PM (GMT)
I've been using Firefox since the summer of 2004, way back before 1.0. I love the extentions and tabs and themes most of all (my favorites of which being Aquatint, Adblock, IE Tab, Download Statusbar, and ZombieKeys).
Boru - September 7, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
yeah i'm stuck using IE right now, I miss having access to firefox. Silly work computers. The tabs in Firefox are great.
Sakrotac - October 9, 2006 06:09 AM (GMT)
Internet Explorer all the way.

Netscape is the grandpappy of Firefox.. so I'd imagine it would. FF/NS/Mozilla all use Gecko so they'll all look similar.
Spurius - January 6, 2007 02:52 AM (GMT)
I've been using
Flock for the past 6 months or so. I love it, it's a lot like firefox, only is much better for blogging, sharing pictures, RSS feeds, etc... It hasen't let me down yet.
Dyegov - January 17, 2007 03:37 AM (GMT)
I have used Firefox since its first version, and I am not planning on changing it. I have used all the others apart from safari (Because I have not ever used a Mac) and I do not like it. Firefox and its free add ons give me everything I want in an explorer and even more, so I will stick with it :)
