I figured I would stick with the formula and post an introduction before I commented on any of the topics at this forum. I am currently a college student attending Ohio University and majoring in Criminal Justice. After I graduate later this year, then I will be off to Graduate School for a Master's in Political Science, and hopefully a career in teaching at the collegiate level.
As for politics, on most issues I am a libertarian, because I believe in the freedom of choice, freedom of speech, and freedom of thought, no matter how different than my own it tends to be. To get a decent picture on where I stand philosophically and religiously, some of my favorite thinkers include Kant, Neitzsche, Voltaire, Camus, Rousseau, Epicurus, Heraclitus, Siddhartha Gautama, Ingersoll, Huxley, Russell, Einstein, and as you might've guessed, Paine.
Above all though, in philosophy I tend to put more weight upon the way in which people arrive at their own conclusions instead of the actual conclusions themselves. Even if I tend to agree with a person on a certain point, if I sense that they seem to be more interested in egotism or a predetermined agenda other than the truth, I tend to distance myself from them.
But enough about me...
I am highly looking forward to some intelligent discourse on the various topics here.
May you live long and prosper.
Glad to have you. I finished from Loyola College in Maryland, having studied philosophy and psychology. It'll be nice to have someone with a more philosophical background here.
Welcome.
